Rare 1913 Honus Wagner Card Headlines Sports Auction

A supremely rare 1913 Honus Wagner card from Voskamp’s Coffee is gearing up to steal the show at an upcoming sports memorabilia auction. Released exclusively in Pittsburgh, where the iconic shortstop made his mark in baseball, this card is a prized gem coveted by collectors. Clean Sweep Auctions has revealed that their September event will shine a spotlight on this elusive Wagner card, packaged with coffee and tea by the local Pittsburgh company, Voskamp’s Coffee. These cards have become extremely scarce over the past hundred years, making them highly sought after by enthusiasts.

This particular Wagner card has been recently graded and encapsulated at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago, marking just the third time a Voskamp’s Wagner card has received a grading from PSA. SGC has graded only four examples of these cards so far, adding to the exclusivity and desirability of this upcoming auction. It’s a rare opportunity for collectors to get their hands on one of the most coveted pieces in the sports memorabilia world, as Voskamp’s Wagner cards have not been seen in a public auction since 2017.

Aside from the historic Wagner card, the auction features a dazzling array of vintage baseball cards and memorabilia. Highlights include two 1887 N172 Old Judge cards featuring Hall of Famers Mike “King” Kelly and Harry Wright, showcasing a glimpse into early baseball history. The auction also boasts an E102 Ty Cobb graded PSA 2 (mk), a T206 Ty Cobb with a green background graded PSA 1.5, and a Cy Young Portrait card graded PSA 5. Furthermore, collectors will find a variety of pre-war treasures like P2 Sweet Caporal pins, an E103 Williams Caramel Ty Cobb, and a range of Ty Cobb cards graded by PSA.

Not to be outdone, the auction showcases a fascinating selection of memorabilia and unique collectibles. From a signed Walter Johnson baseball to a 1933 New York Yankees team-signed baseball with signatures from Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, the memorabilia section is a treasure trove of baseball history. Additionally, collectors can look forward to boxing cards, presidential autographs, entertainment memorabilia, and even rare artifacts like Joe Tinker and Brooklyn Dodgers pennants from the early 1900s.

A standout feature of the auction is the nearly complete autographed 1952 Bowman Baseball set, with individual autographed cards of legends like Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges, Mickey Mantle, and Willie Mays. Basketball enthusiasts can rejoice over iconic cards of Michael Jordan from his early career, while football fans can explore high-grade Bart Starr cards spanning his rookie year to his final issue in 1971 Topps.

With a mix of rare vintage cards, iconic memorabilia, and unique collectibles, the upcoming sports auction promises an exciting and diverse range of items for every collector’s taste. From historic gems like the 1913 Voskamp’s Coffee Honus Wagner card to signed baseballs and vintage programs, this event celebrates the rich tapestry of sports history preserved through timeless collectibles.
