REA’s February Auction Sets Vintage Sports Card Record


Robert Edward Auctions (REA) hit a home run in their recent February auction, showcasing a stunning array of vintage sports cards and memorabilia that caught the eye of collectors and enthusiasts worldwide. The star of the show was undoubtedly the PSA 5 graded M116 Sporting Life Honus Wagner card, which fetched a jaw-dropping $75,000, setting a new record for its version and shining a spotlight on the enduring allure of rare sports collectibles.

But the excitement didn’t stop there. Another standout piece was the Ty Cobb Blue Background card from the same M116 Sporting Life series, graded PSA GOOD 2, which made waves by selling for $15,000, a record for its condition. The auction drew in a crowd of registry builders and collectors, with a special highlight on the ten Mint 9 graded cards from the 196 Topps set. Among them, the #2 Roman Mejias PSA MINT 9 card stole the spotlight with a staggering auction high of $19,200, proving that value knows no bounds in the world of sports card collecting.

The 1934 R320 Goudey #37 Lou Gehrig card in PSA EX-MT 6 condition garnered considerable attention with a final bid of $18,000. Not to be outdone, the 1986-1987 Fleer Basketball PSA NM-MT 8 Complete Set fetched an impressive $12,000, rounding out the list of top sellers.
